Alisha Ammons (chorus)
Alisha Ammons is a singer and actress from Athens, TN. She has a Bachelor's degree in Theatre from Lee University. This is her first production with Wendel Werner, and she is very excited to have the opportunity to perform with such a talented group of ladies.
Chevy Anz (JESUS)
Chevy is excited to finally be a part of the first vinyl she memorized from overture to finale. A big ALW fan, she has appeared as the Narrator in Joseph (Bijou Theatre) and the title role of Evita (Clarence Brown + Oak Ridge Playhouse). Area audiences have seen her at Theatre Knoxville Downtown, Knoxville Opera, Encore Theatrical, Tennessee Valley Players and Flying Anvil Theatre.
Marie Butler (chorus)
Marie was the Music Director of Third Creek Baptist Church for a number of years. She graduated
from UT-Martin with music degrees and works now at Knoxville Opera as the finance/ticket manager.
Thanks, Wendel, for another musically challenging opportunity.
Jan Coe (CAIAPHUS)
Jan is thrilled to be playing Caiaphas in this unique production of the musical that changed her relationship to religion when she was in high school. A scientist and business owner by profession, Jan has been a musician all her life including piano, voice, guitar, dulcimer, drums, and more recently, Native American flute, singing bowls and gongs. Now that she is retired, she is able to combine her life-long spiritual pursuits with music to create Whole Notes Harmony, her sound therapy practice, that is providing much peace and joy for both her and her clients. Inner harmony is a beautiful thing!
Michelle Grimm (chorus)
Michelle is thrilled to be a part of Jesus Christ Superstar! A life long lover of the theatre, she recently played Truvy in Steel Magnolias, and was the music director for Singing in the Rain. She would like to thank Wendel for the opportunity to be a part of this...and would like to thank her angels for their love and lifelong support, and God for His strength.
Lisa Hatmaker (chorus)
Lisa, a UT Theatre graduate, has appeared in over 150 plays in the region. She would like to thank Wendel for the opportunity to be part of this project and to work with such a talented cast.
Sheryl Lawrence Howard (PONTIUS PILATE)
Sheryl is so excited to be singing the musical she sang at the top of her lungs on the band bus in Lenape High School in New Jersey in the 70’s. Sheryl counts herself honored to be among some of the most gifted and strong women in this crazy-talented cast. Thanks to Wendel Werner for continually coming up with new and exciting projects. Sarah Jebian (JUDAS)
Sarah Jebian is a professional singer and voice teacher living in the Washington, D.C., area. She currently serves as the Interim Director of Music at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockville, Maryland. Sarah fronts the Irish band Keltish and is a freelance vocal soloist. She's thrilled to fulfill a life-long dream of performing in Jesus Christ Superstar and never thought she'd have the chance to play Judas! Thanks, Wendel!
Ruth Johnson (chorus)
Ruth is a Baritone Saxophonist with Tennessee Wind Symphony and an Alto and Baritone Saxophonist with the Oak Ridge Community Band. This year started out with so many new musical opportunities – becoming a member of an all-female cast performing Jesus Christ Superstar was totally unexpected! She is thankful for the time spent working with such a talented and diverse group of people.
Theresa Jones (SIMON)
Theresa "Tre" Jones is excited to be part of this unique opportunity and to work with such an amazingly talented group of women and musicians. When Tre's not playing her "9-5" sales executive role you can find her practicing and performing with her two bands: Wabi Sabi and The Perfect Fifth and/or Diminished Third.
Nancy grew up singing along with JCSS in her basement (Murray Head version, of course), and considered it her parental duty to expose her children to the same. She is happy to now be out of the basement and into the light with these talented musicians.
Ann Love (chorus)
Ann is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Performance. Since 1987, she has directed children, youth and adult choirs in various churches, arranging and directing many musicals, cantatas and summer tours. She had the privilege of singing in an acapella jazz group, “Just In Time,” under the direction of Wendel Werner and the “Fa-So-La” ladies ensemble under the direction of Patti Foster. She is so excited to be a part of this production. She hopes your experience hearing the Easter story in such a diverse way will leave a lasting, powerful feeling and make your Easter more meaningful than ever before!!
Nancy Mathias (chorus)
Nancy was fortunate to retire early with the support of her husband, Mike, and now she's getting the chance to pursue her passion: music. Starting in choir at age three, Nancy loved singing and she's been singing since including in Mefistofele with the Knoxville Opera chorus. A big thank you to Wendel for the opportunity to be a part of this unique production.
Bekah McNair (KING HEROD)
Bekah is in her first year as a music major at Pellissippi State. School credits include: Legally Blonde (Paulette), Hairspray (Velma Von Tussle), and Beauty and the Beast (Mrs. Potts). She has also been in local shows, such as All Shook Up at Oak Ridge Playhouse and Little Women with the WordPlayers.
Abbie Moore (chorus)
Abbie got a late start to formal choral singing, after taking lessons from the music director at her church. When that director retired, Wendel Werner was hired, and he encouraged her to overcome her stage fright. In addition to singing, she has recently begun to learn to play the ukulele (long story – just ask me and I’ll tell you) and the banjo. Music has become a big part of her life and she's the richer because of it.
Kerry Morrison (chorus)
Kerry is a multi-woodwind player active in the Knoxville Community Band and has played in the orchestra pit for several area musicals. She has recently joined Katy Free and The New Fashions on alto sax and clarinet. She is excited to sing and play in Jesus Christ Superstar!
Jessica Pierce (ANNAS)
Jessica is excited to be back onstage after a decade-long hiatus as a stay-at-home-mom. In her pre-parenthood life, she spent many, many hours at the Oak Ridge Playhouse and the theatre at Maryville College. She is thrilled to share the stage with so many fabulously talented women, and so grateful to Wendel for the amazing opportunity. Thanks to Edward, Julia, and Elliot for their love and support, and to Genevieve for the infinite breaths of happiness.
Emilee Jane Richardson (chorus)
Emilee Jane, a classically trained vocalist from Kingston, TN, has performed all over the US, as well as multiple recital halls and cathedrals throughout Europe. Her musical theatre and opera repertoire includes The Music Man, A Little Night Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Dido and Aeneas, The Marriage of Figaro, and the World Premiere of Larry Delinger’s Medea. She has also been the guest soloist for the Knoxville Nativity Pageant, the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame ceremonies, and several Handel's Messiah performances. She is thankful for the opportunity to be part of this sui generis experience!
Betsy Sonewald (chorus)
Betsy lives and works in Oak Ridge, TN, and in her free time she enjoys visiting downtown Knoxville, training for a half marathon, and singing in a small vocal ensemble. She is excited to be included in this production and has enjoyed working with the incredible cast and musicians.
Kathy Tallent (PETER)
Kathy has been in several productions in the Knoxville area. She is happy to be involved in this innovative piece of theatre. Kathy is an elementary music teacher in the Athens City Schools and Director of Music Ministry at Graystone Presbyterian Church.
Peggy Bertand Terpstra (chorus)
Peggy is an educational consultant who has had prior careers as an education professor, high school science teacher, software entrepreneur, and chemist. She loves singing in her church choir, and playing clarinet and tenor saxophone in various groups including the Oak Ridge Community Band and the New Fashion Horn Line. Peggy thanks Wendel for staging this production, and has immensely enjoyed the wonderful JCSS music she remembers from her youth. Special thanks to husband, Dan, for his patience with her musical addiction.
Tracy Walker (chorus)
Tracy is originally from Madison, WI, where she earned Bachelor's degrees in both Music and Theatre Production & Design. Now living in Oak Ridge, TN, when not on stage or TV as an actress, she spends a great deal of time directing, and playing trumpet and French horn and singing in local bands. She thanks Wendel for this amazing experience, as well as her family for their never-ending love and support of her various antics, and her five rescued dogs for assisting her in running lines.
Kimberly Watkins (MARY MAGDALENE)
Kimberly Watkins (Mary Magdalene) performed in the LA and San Francisco areas before moving to Tennessee, meeting her husband Mike, and having their daughter, Riley (11). Locally she has performed with the Oak Ridge Playhouse and Tennessee Valley Players. She is honored to be a part of this talented cast!
Burke is an accomplished musician, most notably as the soprano soloist for John Rutter’s Requiem presented by the University of Tennessee Concert Choir, Maryville College Community Chorus & Orchestra, and other choirs across the Southeast. Burke is a member of the Knoxville Opera Chorus, co-owner of Modern Studio, and teaches sewing classes & creates custom garments as Modern Seamstress.
